COURSE DESCRIPTION

๐Ÿ‘“ Your learner will be engaged through a variety of activities. There are six video lessons of approximately 30-40 minutes and a accompanying printouts to work with during class. Advance at your own pace!

๐ŸŒž The โ€œImagine Mathโ€ series will introduce young learners to different perspectives on math. It will tap into their imagination as they explore fundamental math concepts and develop flexibility in thinking. Children are drawn into the wondrous world of math!

๐ŸŒŸ "The Story of Place Value" draws from storytelling and images to help children comprehend a fundamental math concept.

๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ Each class begins with verses and tongue twisters, rhythmic (skip) counting and coordination exercises (speech, hand-eye and midline crossing). This will help the children feel fully awake and enthusiastic, and keep them motivated throughout class. Once seated, children practice reading large numbers and can work up to the millions place. They learn the importance of zero as a place holder.

๐Ÿช„ The children will then listen to short adventure stories of the math helpers and lively characters. These help children to understand math concepts from a deeper perspective. The events inspire the written math practice. Students will use manipulatives such as popsicle sticks to visually work with the concept of place value. There is also an opportunity for a craft - making their place value castle. Each class, they will put into drawings what they learn from the stories.

๐Ÿ“… COURSE CONTENT ๐Ÿ“…

Bringing the castle to life

Lesson 4: Addition and subtraction without carrying/borrowing (two-digit numbers)
Hands-on practice to link the abstract numerical process to the place value concept

Lesson 5: Addition and subtraction with carrying/borrowing
Hands-on practice to link the abstract numerical process to the place value concept
Castle craft with sliding towers to practice reading large numbers

Lesson 6: Comparing numbers and concluding the story
Seeing equivalent quantities; identifying greater than or less than

NOTE: Horizontal format is mainly used to write equations. This invites children to work with the quantities and the concept before resorting to a series of steps (i.e. in a subtraction with borrowing problem: crossing out the number and adding a 1). The emphasis is on understanding what it means before being able to find the answer.

REVIEWS FROM PARENTS

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
This class did wonders for my daughter. We used it as a review and reinforcement of concepts that didn't have much real world value for her. The stories and activities are highly engaging. She said this was the most fun she's ever had learning math! Ms. Karin exudes warmth and joy through each lesson. This class is such a beautiful representation of place value and is taught in an enchanting and mesmerizing setting. Just lovely. We look forward to taking more classes!ย

๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ
Absolutely beautiful videos. I am so grateful for a screen time activity that doesn't feel like screen time. The teacher is like Mr. Rogers but the class is filmed some place beautiful, like Costa Rica. So much attention to quality in presentation - all materials are gorgeous. The videos are about 45 minutes long, which gives time for multiple modes of teaching, but you can easily take a break after 10-15 minutes and split the video into segments. We will take more classes from this teacher. Hands down the highest quality class we have taken online.
