Reading Large Numbers! Place Value Practice Castle
Students will practice reading numbers with the castle slider. By arranging castles side by side, they can explore numbers in the millions or billions!
Available in both black & white and color versions, this original resource is versatile and easy to use. Cut out the castle, glue it onto cardstock, and leave space for the towers to slide. Each gate reveals a single digit, allowing for interactive number exploration.
This resource is perfect for supplementing math lessons. Teachers can incorporate it into drills, quick review games, or storytelling activities. With its engaging design and many possibilities, the castle slider is sure to become a valuable tool in your classroom.
IDEAS FOR USE:
- The teacher calls out a number. Students slide the towers to make that number.
- Students make a number and their partners have to read it.
- Who is up for a challenge? Get in groups of three to make numbers in the billions. Other teams take turns to read.
- Mental math: All students start on a given number. The teacher takes them through a number journey (i.e. Start at 6,209. Four hundred diamonds were brought in. Then, 20 were given away. What is the final number?
- Mental math with carrying or borrowing/regrouping: (i.e. Start at 6,209. Show me the number that is four hundred less than our starting number.)
